No Knead Savory Cheese Dinner Rolls

No Knead Savory Cheese Rolls
Easy no-knead savory cheesy rolls for your next barbecue.
Yield 18 rolls

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 2 (0.25oz each) packages (14g) or 4 1/2 teaspoons Red Star Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant minced onion
  • 1 teaspoon table salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup Fontinella or Cheddar cheese

  • In stand mixer bowl, add 2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, minced onion, salt and celery seed; mix well. In saucepan or microwave-safe dish, heat milk, water and shortening to 120-130°F (shortening does not need to melt). Add to flour mixture. Using a paddle attachment, blend on low speed for 30 seconds. Add egg; beat on medium speed for 3 minutes. Add cheese. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a stiff batter.
(NOTE: For hand mixing: following above steps, mix ingredients in large mixing bowl using a wooden spoon or dough whisk.)
  • Cover; let rise in warm place until light and doubled, about 30 minutes.
  • Stir down batter. Spoon into greased muffin cups (or if desired, shape rolls by rolling into ball and then place in muffin cups). Cover; let rise in warm place until light and doubled, about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm.
