THIS RECIPE MAKES 4 TO 6 SERVINGS
Ingredients
- 1+1/2 cups Flour
- 2+1/4 tsp Active Dry Yeast
- 1 tsp Sugar
- ½ tsp Salt
- ½ cup Sour cream
- ½ cup Water
- ¼ cup Shortening
- 1 Egg
- 1 cup (4 oz.) Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
FILLING
- 1 pound Ground beef
- 1 tsp Salt
- ¼ tsp Pepper
- 1 TBSP Instant minced onion
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 can (6 oz.) Tomato paste
- 1 can (4 oz.) Sliced mushrooms, drained
Instructions
- Prepare Filling; set aside. In medium mixer bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar and salt; mix well. In saucepan, heat sour cream, water and shortening to 120-130°F (shortening does not need to melt); add to flour mixture. Add egg. Mix by hand until somewhat smooth. Spread in greased 9 or 10-inch pie pan to make a crust. Spoon Filling into crust; sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 375°F for 30 to 35 minutes until light golden brown. Serve immediately.
- Filling: In fry pan, brown ground beef, salt and pepper; drain. Add remaining ingredients; mix well.
- Tip: Filling can be prepared ahead and refrigerated; assemble and bake as directed.
- You can substitute Instant (fast-rising) yeast for Active Dry Yeast. Traditional methods- replace 1:1. Expect your dough to rise faster; always let your dough rise until ‘ripe’. Bread Machines- use ½ tsp Instant yeast (or ¾ tsp Active Dry yeast) per cup of flour in your recipe. Visit our Lessons in Yeast & Baking for more information.
