Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 (0.25oz) package (7g) or 2 1/4 teaspoons Red Star Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (120-130˚F)
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable or olive oil

Pizza sauce

  • 1 (8oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (6oz) can tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano (or 1 Tbsp fresh, chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon parsley flakes (or 2 tsp fresh, chopped)
  • 3/4 teaspoon basil (or 1 1/2 tsp fresh, chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon table salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper

Topping

  • Your favorite toppings, such as Mozzarella cheese, sliced veggies, pepperoni, sausage

Instructions

  • Prepare sauce (*see note below): Combine pizza sauce ingredients and simmer 10 to 15 minutes.
  • In stand mixer bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, yeast and salt; mix well. Add warm water and oil to flour mixture. Using a paddle attachment, mix until almost smooth, about 4 minutes
  • Switch to dough hook attachment. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 3 to 4 minutes.
(NOTE: For hand mixing: following above steps, mix ingredients in large mixing bowl using a wooden spoon or dough whisk. Knead on floured surface until smooth and elastic.)
  • Cover dough; let rise 30-45 minutes.
  • Prepare Pizza: On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to a 16-inch circle. Place in an oiled 14-inch round deep-dish pizza pan, pushing dough halfway up sides of pan. (**see note below) Cover; let rise in warm place until puffy, about 15 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Prepare toppings.
  • Spread pizza sauce over dough. Sprinkle cheese over sauce; add other toppings as desired. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until edge is crisp and golden brown and cheese is melted.

Notes

*You can also use 1 2/3 cups prepared pizza sauce in place of homemade sauce.
**The pizza dough can also be rolled to a 15×11-inch rectangle and placed on a greased 13×9-inch baking pan.

Is all the salt and olive oil for the 1 1/2 cup of flour? Instructions are confusing because the recipe says 3 1/4 cups of flour but then on the prep directions it says 1 1/2 cup of flour! Which one is correct? Thank you!

Hi Elisa,

Sorry for the confusion. In step 3 you add the remaining 1 3/4 cups. Although I would hold back about 1/2 cup to see if you need it all. Go back look and feel of the dough!

Happy Baking!
